Boarding

We are one of the UK's largest maintained boarding schools and offer exceptional value for UK and EU passport holders or those enjoying UK right of residence.

The government pays tuition fees for students meeting these conditions, effectively reducing costs by a third compared with those charged for similar services in an independent school. The College is situated approximately ten minutes from Stansted Airport and an hour from London.
Residential students enjoy all the additional qualitative advantages of our boarding expertise and experience, including:

  • Our proven record in meeting the needs of students from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • The opportunity for our staff to recognise and develop individual potential and talents
  • The support of our experienced and qualified boarding house teams
  • An outstanding range of activities and opportunities

 There are four Boarding Houses:

  • Winchester for Girls aged 11 -15 years
  • Canterbury for Boys aged 11 - 15 years
  • Roding for Girls aged 16 - 18 years
  • Thames for Boys aged 16 - 18 years

All Houses aim to engender a sense of pride and belonging to the boarding community and to promote self-worth within a warm and friendly atmosphere.  Through the House Status system students develop a personal sense of responsibility towards the House as a whole and are rewarded for their maturity, initiative, personal organisation and participation in social activities.   The boarders are encouraged to be independent but are also provided with sensitive care in a disciplined environment.

Senior Houses enjoy a form of self-governance through their elected House Committees, House Captains and appointed House Prefects.

Time is set aside each weekday evening for students to complete their Preparation for the following day’s lessons under staff supervision.’
